Music has been part of our family for as long as I can remember.From a young age, my father, Jorge Bastos, passed on to me his passion for music. Before long, I picked up the guitar myself, dreaming of playing gigs with friends. My father was always there — helping set up the equipment before a show and packing everything away when it was over.At the time, Slash of Guns N’ Roses was my favorite guitarist. My father even built me a Gibson Les Paul–style guitar inspired by Slash — an instrument that remains very special to me to this day.But there was something missing: the right guitar strap.We wanted something made from beautiful leather, something with character that complemented the guitar rather than simply holding it.That was the beginning of GBS.With many years of experience working in the footwear industry and an extensive knowledge of leather and traditional craftsmanship, my father decided to create the strap himself.What began with one strap soon became something much bigger.Since 2012, Jorge has been designing and handcrafting GBS guitar and bass straps in Portugal, combining carefully selected leathers, traditional techniques and distinctive designs.Many of our straps can be customized in different colors, widths, lengths, materials and details, making each piece personal to the musician who wears it.Today, GBS straps leave our workshop in Portugal and travel to musicians all around the world.But despite how far they travel, the philosophy behind them remains exactly the same as it was with that very first strap:Create something by hand, make it with care, and make it worthy of the instrument it carries.

FROM THE BEGINNING
From a young age, music was a huge part of my life, thanks to my father, Jorge Bastos. He instilled in me a deep love and admiration for the art form, and before long, I was itching to pick up a guitar and start playing. My dream was always to perform gigs with my friends, and my father was just as eager to watch me play, from setting up the equipment to packing it all away after the show.
My father even built me a Gibson Les Paul replica of Slash from Guns N' Roses - my favorite guitarist at the time - which remains my go-to instrument to this day. But we quickly realized that we were missing a crucial component: a beautiful, high-quality strap that could hold the guitar securely and confidently.
That's when my father had the brilliant idea to start creating custom leather straps. With his years of experience in the shoe industry, he knew he could craft something truly unique and special. And from that moment on, he's been thriving in this new venture - designing and creating straps that are not only durable and well-crafted but also customizable, allowing musicians to express their own unique style.
What started as a passion project for my father has now become a thriving business, and we're thrilled to share our one-of-a-kind straps with people all around Portugal and beyond. Whether you're a seasoned musician or just starting out, we're confident that you'll love our straps as much as we do.
